Visitor Information
We know that it is difficult to visit an unfamiliar church, especially for the first time. This page will describe what your first visit might look like so you know what to expect.
When you arrive at Monticello First Presbyterian, you will be greeted by an usher at the doors to the sanctuary. He or she will offer you a bulletin and welcome you to worship. The bulletin simply displays the order of the worship service, including the hymns \we will sing, the scripture texts read, the prayers we will pray, as well as any information pertinent to the life of the congregation. Please feel free to sit in any pew and allow those who are already there to introduce themselves and find out a bit about who you are. After the service, the pastor will be at the door to meet you.
Children. We believe that children are vital to the life of the church; their energy, enthusiasm, and imaginations remind us that we are all children of God. Therefore, children are always welcome in worship. We make every effort to provide a kid-friendly atmosphere where children can imagine God’s deep and abiding love for them. In addition, we supply worship bags for the youngest worshipers among us. These are red canvas bags filled with various art supplies located in the rear of the sanctuary. We love our kids, and we love a sanctuary full of energy and enthusiasm (like only kids can provide)!
What to Wear. Some men wear jackets and many women wear “Sunday dresses” to our worship services, but others dress quite casually. Wear what is comfortable for you. All are welcome here at Monticello’s First Presbyterian!
Communion. We celebrate the Lord’s Supper many times throughout the year. Generally, we celebrate the sacrament on the first Sunday of each month, as well as during appropriate seasons during the year.
The Collection Plate. Visitors are welcome but not obligated or expected to contribute. The collection we take on Sunday morning is our opportunity to give back to God from that which God has already given to us. These resources are used for needs in the church, the community, and the world.
Becoming a Member. Our pastor can answer any questions you may have about how to become a member.. Generally, there are three ways to join: (1) Profession of Faith, (2) Reaffirmation of Faith, and (3) Transfer of Letter of Membership.
Feedback. If you have any questions or feedback after your visit, please contact us by e-mail or telephone. Thank you.
